How Does It Work?

With just one 90-minute lesson per week for 21 days, your child will boost their creative writing confidence, vocabulary and master core exam strategies for multiple-choice comprehension questions. Are you ready to ignite your child’s creativity and reading strategies?

How is the programme structured?

How has the 11+ English programme been developed?

The 11+ English Exam Skills Programme is the result of over 14 years of teaching expertise and parent feedback. The perfect way to boost your child's confidence in theit English skills.

Are there separate groups for Year 4 and Year 5 students?

Yes! There is a group for Year 4 and another group for Year 5 students.

How many lessons are there?

There is one 90-minute lesson each week for 21 days. In each 90-minute lesson we will cover creative writing and effective multiple-choice reading comprehension strategies. Please note, a session on open questions (written answers) is available on request.

What does the creative writing include?

Your child will develop their story planning skills, as well as paragraph structure, use of ambitious vocabulary, figurative language and descriptive writing skills.

Is homework included?

Yes! Everyone has a different family schedule so English homework is optional.

What was your child's favourite aspect of course? Mainly creating that space for him to do what he enjoys the most by allowing him to learn more about creative writing while receiving very quickly nurturing and professional feedback, which allow him to grow and learn. It increased his confidence, which is helping him so much not only in terms of creative writing but at a personal level in other areas of his day to day life. I just think that Clare has set up an extremely well thought through structure for this sessions. For my son a plus was having other kids attending the session as encouraged him to be more active within the group.

She liked the tiger picture to give her an idea where to start and because it was an interesting idea. She says her writing is more fun and easier now that she knows where her stories are going. She learned to have a plan which she has used again. She's also learned that it’s ok (and actually even good) to cross things out in her stories. Encouraged to edit. Given lots of positive encouragement and feedback.

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed Claire's story writing workshop, which provided a safe and inviting space and story prompts to inspire creativity. My daughter loved writing her story and learnt to craft her story (beginning to end) in a structured and thoughtful way.

Claire's poetry workshop is absolutly amazing and I will highly recommend her! My 8 year old child truly loved it and learnt so much. Claire has a great way of teaching and is very knowledgeable, we can't wait to attend her next session.

Who can join?

The 11+ English Kickstart Programme is open to children in Year 5 and ambitious Year 4 students. A typical student is academically bright, conscientious with good technical writing skills but lacks experience expressing their ideas creatively. English is normally an additonal language spoken at home. With a strong focus on vocabulary in the 11+ exam, students also want to expand their vocabulary and sharpen their reading skills.

What if our target schools are outside of London, can my child still join?

Yes! The programme is suitable for children applying for highly selective Grammar schools (GL), Future Stories (FSCE) and elite Independent schools, including those with an ISEB pre-test. Clare is a qualified, experienced teacher who understands the essential skills and exam techniques that will help your child ace their 11 Plus English.
