With just a weekly 90-minute lesson for three weeks, your child will boost their creative writing confidence, vocabulary and master core exam strategies for success! Are you ready to ignite your child’s creativity and reading strategies?

How are the taster classes structured?

When can I book for September 2025?

High-quality small group tuition designed for your child, tailored to specific schools. Year 4 and Year 5 bookings for September will be opening soon!

How has the 11+ English taster been developed?

The 11+ English Exam Skills Taster is the result of over 14 years of teaching expertise and parental feedback. The classes are the perfect way to boost your child's confidence in their English skills.

What is included?

Creative writing skills and vibrant vocabulary/poetry comprehension on alternate weeks.

How many lessons are there?

Year 4: Three 75-minute tutorials. Year 5: Three 90-minute tutorials. Afterwards, you can choose to continue the classes for the ultimate tutoring experience for exam success!

Is homework included?

Yes! Everyone has a different family schedule so poetry comprehension homework is optional.

What was your child's favourite aspect of course? Mainly creating that space for him to do what he enjoys the most by allowing him to learn more about creative writing while receiving very quickly nurturing and professional feedback, which allow him to grow and learn. It increased his confidence, which is helping him so much not only in terms of creative writing but at a personal level in other areas of his day to day life. I just think that Clare has set up an extremely well thought through structure for this sessions. For my son a plus was having other kids attending the session as encouraged him to be more active within the group.

She liked the tiger picture to give her an idea where to start and because it was an interesting idea. She says her writing is more fun and easier now that she knows where her stories are going. She learned to have a plan which she has used again. She's also learned that it’s ok (and actually even good) to cross things out in her stories. Encouraged to edit. Given lots of positive encouragement and feedback.

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed Claire's story writing workshop, which provided a safe and inviting space and story prompts to inspire creativity. My daughter loved writing her story and learnt to craft her story (beginning to end) in a structured and thoughtful way.

Claire's poetry workshop is absolutly amazing and I will highly recommend her! My 8 year old child truly loved it and learnt so much. Claire has a great way of teaching and is very knowledgeable, we can't wait to attend her next session.

Who can join?

There are specific groups for Year 4 and Year 5. The vibe is focused, relaxed and friendly! The Year 4 classes are aimed at parents who want to give their child an early advantage. Year 5 children are preparing for competitve Grammar school and elite private school 11+ exams. A typical student is academically bright, conscientious with good technical writing skills but lacks experience expressing their ideas creatively. English is normally an additonal language spoken at home. With a strong focus on vocabulary in the 11+ exam, students also want to expand their vocabulary and sharpen their reading skills.

How long is each classes?

Each Year 4 class is 75-minutes. Each Year 5 class is 90-minutes.

What is the fee for the 3-week English Exam Skills taster?

The fee is £149 which is payable for the first class.

Why start tuition in Year 4?

The least effortful way to excel in 11+ creative writing is early preparation. The classes are aimed at parents who want to give their child an early advantage. I focus on achieving the best results with a relaxed and effective approach. Your child will develop key skills and the confidence needed to excel in their 11+ creative writing exams.

What if our target schools are outside of London, can my child still join?

Clare is a qualified, experienced teacher who understands the essential skills and exam techniques that will help your child ace their 11 Plus English, regardless of your location and target schools.

What happens afterwards?

After your child has sampled the taster classes, can book a chat to discuss your child's progress and future goals. Ongoing classes, whether Year 4 or Year 5, will cover the full range of 11+ creative writing topics. Your child will learn to use bold vocabulary, descriptive techniques, ambitious vocabulary and literary devices that impress examiners. Year 5 children will get exam-ready with timed practice and expert feedback. With plenty of practice, your child will master their exam performance mentally before they enter the exam hall.
