11+ Comprehension Exam Skills Workshop

Core strategies for exam success

This 90-minute workshop will build your child’s confidence to tackle the different types of comprehension questions. We will cover techniques for understanding text extracts, word meanings and inference questions.

How Does It Work?

In this 90-minute workshop, your child learn strategies for structuring answers and tackling unfamiliar vocabulary within a passage of text. Separate workshops for children in Year 4 and Year 5.

What skills will your child learn?

Active reading strategies

Learn how to skim a passage by: focusing on titles, subheadings, first and last sentences of paragraphs and any highlighted or italicised words. Identify key words in questions and how to summarise a passage by identifying the main ideas.

Structuring written answers

Learn how to use the Point-Evidence-Explanation (PEE) technique for structuring responses.

Gain vocabulary skills

Discover strategies help you explain word meanings within a given context. Building skills in this area will foster a curiosity for learning new vocabulary.

Extended writing questions

Understand how to structure and plan extended responses for higher marks. Learn to write an extended response: introduction, main body and a conclusion.

Who can join the workshop?

The workshop is ideal for children preparing for exams with a standard format comprehension (written answers). There are separate groups for children in Year 4 and Year 5.

What is the workshop fee?

The workshop costs £49. There will be up to 6 children per group.

What if our target schools are outside of London, can my child join the course?

Yes! Even if your target schools are outside London, your child can still benefit from this course. Clare is a qualified, experienced teacher who understands the essential skills and exam techniques that will help your child succeed, regardless of the school's location.

What's your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel, I do not offer a refund unless your child's place can be filled. However, you may prefer to move your booking to a different date.

Can I book a one-off assessment lesson?

Yes! The assessment fee is £145-£195 depending on how much ground you want covered. A post-session feedback call is included.
