Writing Techniques

Book a consultation to discuss your child, target schools and whether we are the right fit. Clare will give you clear, honest guidance, even if it means recommending a different approach.

How long is the Year 4 Foundation Programme?

The Year 4 programme runs for 8 weeks every Thursday, excluding half-term, on 1 October to 26 November.

To make sure the programme is the right fit for your child, parents are asked to send Clare a recent piece of their child’s creative writing.

What is the foundation approach?

Clare’s programme develops confident writers through:

  • Engaging practice that builds your child’s natural fluency and writing stamina.

  • Structured planning to inspire and support your child’s thinking skills and ideas.

  • Independent thinking to encourage children to generate ideas with confidence.

  • Impactful feedback during lessons to support individual progress.

What are the programme outcomes?

By the end of the programme, your child will have built strong, core narrative writing exam skills.

Children will write with more imagination, speed and fluency, supported by richer vocabulary and  sentence construction.

More importantly, children will have more confidence to write independently having developed habits to support their learning.

My child is quite competitive—will the group sessions suit them?

For some children with a strong sense of competition it can be helpful to begin with a few one-to-one tutorials with Clare to instill confidence in core skills, before joining the small group programme.

When children start the group creative writing programme sessions a healthy degree of competition is natural and often beneficial, but the environment remains supportive, ensuring each child feels gently encouraged as well as challenged.
