How Does It Work?
Led by Clare in a small group of just 3–4 children, this 4-week Writing Skills Programme introduces Year 5 students to key creative writing techniques in a clear and manageable way. Weekly voice note feedback via WhatsApp, highlighting one or two key strengths and one next step target is provided to support steady progress. Children learn practical skills they can apply to strengthen their writing, helping them express ideas more confidently and develop the style of writing rewarded in competitive 11+ exams.
4-Week Programme
Week One: Create an Engaging Opening
Children learn how to capture the reader’s attention from the very first sentence and develop their own ideas with creativity and confidence.
Week Two: Build Tension and Description
Children explore techniques used to create atmosphere, suspense, and more vivid descriptive writing.
Week Three: Build Sentence Style and Vocabulary
Children practise varying sentence structures and selecting more precise vocabulary to make their writing more effective and expressive.
Week Four: Bring Skills Together in Exam-Style Writing
Children apply the techniques covered throughout the course in a guided creative writing task designed to build confidence and independence.
