How it Works

Book a Free 15-minute Parent Call

A chance to discuss your child's specific educational goals and whether the club is right for them.

Weekly Writing Practice (4 per month)

Each week, children receive: An 11+ style creative writing prompt. An optional planning template and self-assessment success checklist. They complete the task at home, at their own pace.

Marking Walkthrough

Twice a month, I record a marking walkthrough using selected student work. During these recordings, I: Explain what works well according to what examiners really look for in writing. Show where marks are typically lost. Demonstrate how the writing could be improved to reach a higher level.

Student Work

Only anonymised work is ever used. Names and identifying details are removed. By submitting work, parents agree that it may be used anonymously for teaching purposes.

Why This Approach Works

The goal is to encourage children to improve independently - exactly what they need in the exam. This approach helps children: Understand examiner expectations. Identify the same mistakes they make and how to avoid them. Learn how writing is marked leading to faster improvement than corrections alone. Learn how to self-edit their writing. Gain confidence in their writing skills.

Here to help

Helping Children Practice, Improve and Progress

11+ creative writing can feel daunting, but with the right preparation and guidance, your child can approach it with confidence. Our 11 Plus Creative Writing Critique Club is here to help children develop strong writing skills with less overwhelm.

Please note: This is a critique service and learning club, not an individual marking service. Not every submission will be marked, but every member benefits from expert feedback that applies across all 11+ creative writing tasks.

If you are ready to give your child an extra edge in their 11+ preparation, we would love to welcome them to the club!

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions you might have around the 11 Plus Creative Writing Critique Club

Who is it for?

This membership is ideal for Year 4-5 pupils preparing 11+ creative writing exams.

Children who struggle to improve despite regular practice

Parents who want clarity and confidence around 11+ writing expectations.

Is this the same as private marking or tutoring?

No. This is a shared learning model designed to keep costs affordable while still providing exam insight. Families wanting guaranteed individual feedback may prefer private tutoring.

What is included each month?

  • A weekly 11+ creative writing prompt (4 prompts per month).
  • Each month, two anonymised student submissions are selected for in-depth expert critique. Members receive recorded walkthroughs explaining the strengths, weaknesses and how to improve – skills that apply to every child’s writing.
  • Practical editing checklists for children.

How does the 11 Plus Writing Critique Club work?

11 Plus writing can sometimes be intimidating. Through continuous support and improvement, your child will feel more confident and assured in their abilities. The club helps children to understand how 11+ creative writing is marked –  and how to improve with confidence.

How does the marking walkthrough work?

Rather than correcting every piece of writing individually, there is a  focus on teaching children what examiners are really looking for and how to apply this to their own work.

This membership is based on the same marking principles I have used to help many 11+ pupils strengthen their creative writing.

Will my child's work be marked?

Not every submission is individually marked. Each month, two anonymised pieces are selected for indepth critique. the feedback aims to teach skills that apply to all children’s writing.

How does this help my child if their work isn't chosen?

Children learn by analysing examples. By watching expert feedback on real student work, your child learns:

  • What examiners reward
  • What loses marks
  • How to improve their own writing independently. The skills transfer directly to their own practice.

Is this right for your child?

If your child struggles with structuring writing, generating ideas, or expressing their ideas for exam pieces, this club will give them the guidance to grow in these areas.

If your child thrives on constructive feedback this club provides the kind of detailed insights that will help them progress.
